Emma Stone's Hair Secret

A couple of months back we learned the craziest little fact about Emma Stone. A fact that made the little hairs on the backs of our necks raise and our mouths fall open like we were catching flies. What is this secret you ask?

Emma is NOT A TRUE GINGER! Now some of you (OK maybe all of you) already knew this deep dark secret but we had been blissfully unaware. The story we heard is that when she got hired for the movie Superbad and the producer, Judd Apatow, wanted her as a redhead, she obviously dyed her hair for the role. But then it stuck and a lot of her roles have had her as a redhead, but her natural hair color is actually blonde. This devastated our resident ginger, but we still have love for Emma.

So what do you guys think? Better as a blonde or a redhead? Well you know where Mendi stands! Honestly though, she can do no wrong...except for the fact that we don't see a brunette photo of her. :-)

Friday's Fancies: Crushing on Ashley Madekwe

Can you smell fall in the air?? We sure can! And one dead giveaway is that all of our favorite fall TV shows are starting back up. One such show is Revenge. Raise your hand if you're a Revenge fan too! (**insert picture of us both frantically waving our arms here**)  While Emily VanCamp is hands down the star of the show, we also have to show some love to mischievous Ashley and her cunning ways. Miss Madekwe maintains her own blog, Ring My Bell, where she shares tidbits of her life and the amazing clothes that she's rocking off-screen. So when {av} told us to set out on finding an outfit that we're crushing on for this week's Friday's Fancies, we immediately turned to Ashley for a little inspiration.

Color Craving: Gold

Back in August we showed you that we had a major color craving for burgundy as seen here and we are back to show the next shade that we are seriously craving...GOLD! Anyone surprised that this gorgeous color is next on our list? Some people think that gold is strictly a summer color, but we are here to tell you that it's not and that it needs to be incorporated into your fall and winter wardrobes as well.

Color Craving: Gold

Color Craving: Gold by herlatenightcravings

So what do you think about adding gold into your wardrobe? And just remember how many variations there are with the color gold. You can go for glitter, metallic, shiny or you can lean towards the softer side with more matte or brushed tones. Dressy or casual, the key is that anything goes!

San Francisco Vacation: Days 3 & 4

I'm back with the second part of my vacation recap today and I'll be showing you guys everything that we did on Thursday and Friday of the week that we were away. I've tried to condense everything into as short of a post as possible, but there are some details that simply could not be spared. So grab a snack, a glass of wine, whatever you like, and settle in. I hope you enjoy...

We rented a car on Thursday so that we could venture outside of the city to see some of beautiful Northern California. We started our morning with ahhh-mazing donuts from All-Star Donuts that we picked up the night before in Cow Hollow (I wish I had taken pictures, but I forgot). They were delicious and exactly what we needed for an early morning sugar high! We navigated our way through the San Fran city streets (which was way easier than we thought it was going to be) and we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge (a pretty surreal moment) into Marin County. Our first stop was Muir Woods National Monument. It was early (around 8:30am) and we basically had the place to ourselves for the first hour or two. We ventured off of the more traveled wooden walkways for a heart-pumping tour of trails that led deep into the redwood forest. Everywhere we looked we saw one gorgeous scene after another and it was the quietest place I've ever been in my entire life. We loved it! The pictures can't do it justice...

After hiking and climbing trails for about three hours, we had worked up a major appetite, so we headed to the bayside community of Sausalito for lunch. I'd heard that Sausalito had been called the Mediterranean of the West with it's picturesque views of the bay, it's consistent near 60 degree temps year round and it's uber wealth. In fact, we'd been told to keep our eyes peeled for a celeb sighting as many actors call Sausalito their home. Even though we didn't see the likes of Robin Williams or Danny Glover walking the streets, Sausalito lived up to everything that we could have imagined. If you ever have the opportunity to visit there, be prepared to handle some crowds. Ferries come over from the city, pouring in tourists to fill every restaurant and shop. We got lucky and managed to snag a table on the outdoor patio at Copita where I had the 24 Hour Carnitas. The shredded pork came in a tiny crock, along with fresh guacamole, salsa, cilantro and a lime. We walked through the crowded streets after lunch and then decided to take off to find the Marin Headlands for the best views of the bay and Golden Gate Bridge.

This is where the trip reached an all-time high for me. I hadn't expected to be so in awe of the sights we'd see from the hillside overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, but it was my singular favorite moment of our entire trip. There was something about being so high above the water and overlooking all of San Francisco that made me feel so small, yet so invincible (cheese-tastic, I know, bare with me). All of the trip planning, traveling to reach our west coast destination and the pure adrenaline rush of our first couple of days came to a grinding halt and I soaked up every moment...to appreciate the exact spot that I was standing in and that I was with the man who I love more than anything in the world. So if you ever find yourself in San Francisco, don't neglect to make a pit stop at the Marin Headlands. The winding roads and desolate pre-World War military settlements will have you convinced that you're lost, but stay the course, because the views and the experience are 110% worth it!

When I say that I didn't want to leave that hillside, I really mean that I DID NOT want to leave that hillside!! But our day wasn't done and we still had so much to see, so we hopped back in the car to see where we'd end up...and we found ourselves in the heart of Sonoma County. We took random roads and weaved our way through downtown Sonoma and through the most charming residential communities to get a sense of what life must be like to live amongst one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. We stopped along the way and took some pictures of vineyards, but due to our super casual attire (remember, we'd been hiking that morning), we refrained from doing any actual tours. Nonetheless, it was a great way to spend an afternoon and we were glad that we decided to make the trip further north to see what wine country was all about!

On the way back from Sonoma, I drove so that I too could have the experience of driving across the Golden Gate Bridge and it gave Chris the opportunity to enjoy the scenery. When we reached the city, I made an impromptu decision to drive down Lombard Street to check off "driving the crookedest street in the world" from my bucket list! ;)

That night, we made our way back to an area that we'd passed the day before, where we remembered a narrow alley of restaurants. Little did we know at the time that this area is known as Belden Place and at night it comes alive with al fresco dining at eight separate restaurant options and is referred to as San Francisco's French Quarter. We shared a Dungenness crab bruschetta and Margherita pizza at Brindisi Cucina di Mare. The perfect end to a perfect day.

Friday morning (my hubz' birthday!) we woke up starving and headed to breakfast in the North Beach neighborhood. We had every intention of trying to have breakfast at Mama's on Washington Square because we'd heard that it was a San Fran legend, but much to our surprise, we found a line wrapped around the building at 8am. Not knowing how quickly the line would move (did I mention that we were starving?!), I hopped on the Yelp app on my phone to come up with a plan B. We walked a few blocks away and decided to try Caffe Greco. I enjoyed a zero-calorie-(because everyone knows that calories don't count on vacation)-chocolate chip belgian waffle and a chai tea. Both were wonderful!!

We made a couple of final shopping stops in Union Square and then took off for Alamo Square so that we could see the Painted Ladies (aka: the Full House street from their opening credits). I have to say that I thought the houses would be painted in more vibrant shades of pastels (maybe they need a fresh paint job?), but the city views and being in the iconic location made the hike we took to get there well worth it. Plus, it put us in a great position to be able to walk to the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood where we could take in tons of graffiti and tattoo parlors on every block. We also scored another Jamba Juice while in the neighborhood...I told y'all we were addicted!

We stopped back by our hotel to quickly change clothes before heading to AT&T Park to take in a SF Giants versus LA Dodgers game that night. We had dinner at a really cool sports bar called Public House that is attached to the stadium. After another great meal (we both had burgers), we ran into the Dugout to purchase our Giants baseball caps and then walked around the concourse of the stadium, which had gorgeous views of the bay. We had amazing seats (13 rows from the field) between first base and right field. The Dodgers initially went into the lead, but San Francisco rallied back and made it an awesome game...winning 5-2! It was exactly the ballpark experience that we were hoping for, considering that last year during our trip to Chicago, the Cubs game we attended went into a rain delay after three innings and we ended up watching the end of the game from the bar in our hotel. Chris is a massive sports fan, so I couldn't have been happier for him that this was how he got to spend his birthday!

I'll be back in a couple of days with the final recap of our trip. Saturday was spent driving the PCH to Monterey, then along 17 Mile Drive through Pebble Beach and finally on to Carmel...I can't wait to share those pictures with you!! It was a day that we will NEVER forget!

I hope you guys have enjoyed reading these recaps and that you've had a wonderful weekend!

Friday's Fancies: Fashionable Football Fiancee

We decided to take {av's} assignment in a completely different direction this week. You know that quote "Behind every great man there is a great woman"...well, we think that behind every great football player is a super fashionable woman. Sounds good, right? Well, in Jay Cutler's case that holds true. This Chicago Bears QB is the man who snagged KCav. And let us just say that her style has evolved so much since her Laguna Beach days! Check out her on trend outfit below and see how you can get a similar look for less.

San Francisco Vacation: Days 1 & 2

I'm settled back in from vacation, my photos have been Instagrammed to the ends of the earth and I'm finally ready to start sharing the details of my husband & I's recent trip to San Francisco. We flew out of Richmond early Tuesday morning, the 4th of September and returned late on Sunday, September 9th. I'm going to break our trip up into three separate posts. It'll go a little something like this:

Days 1 & 2: City sights and shopping
Days 3 & 4: Muir Woods, Sausalito, Sonoma Valley, more city sights and a Giants-vs-Dodgers baseball game at AT&T Park
Days 5 & 6: Monterey Bay, Pebble Beach (17 Mile Drive), Carmel and a few last city sights

So, if you guys are up for it, I'm gonna go ahead and get started...

We stayed at the historic Mark Hopkins Intercontinental, located at the crest of the famed Nob Hill area, which is just a few short blocks from Chinatown and Union Square. The hotel itself was gorgeous and the service was impeccable.

We enjoyed the location because it was a crossroads for three of the four cable car lines that run throughout the city, but when cable cars were unavailable, the task of walking back up to our hotel after being out all day was quite the workout (and I do mean nearly straight up...think a 45 degree angle). We cabbed it back to our hotel most nights after dinner, but trust us, we'd already done our fair share of climbing SF city streets by lunchtime most days!

As soon as we dropped off our bags, we headed out for Fisherman's Wharf for some lunch. We had our first cable car experience and we couldn't wipe the goofy grins off our face...we felt like we were in a Rice-a-Roni commercial! Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 offer tons of restaurant options, but we opted for something super casual, so we ended up at a little place called Chowders, where I had clam chowder in a sourdough bowl. We got our first good view of The Rock, where we stood for awhile and wondered what it would have been like to be an inmate there and to be so close, yet so far away from the bustling city (is that creepy?!? probably). The lazy, sunbathing sea lions were enjoying their afternoon nap...most of them were anyway...some of those fat little fellas were Grouchy McGroucherson, barking at any other sea lion that dared to interrupt their slumber. They provided more than a few good laughs!

From Fisherman's Wharf we walked up to Ghirardelli Square and took some long whiffs of all of the chocolatey goodness. Unfortunately we were still too full from lunch to get one of their world famous hot fudge sundaes. (Looking back we should've just done it regardless of how stuffed we were, because we didn't end up ever getting back to the Ghirardelli Square Caffe.) Then we walked our first SF hill and it was a doozy!! Four blocks felt like ten, but at the top we were rewarded with amazing city views and the ever popular Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world. (I'll go ahead and insert here that I ended up getting to drive down Lombard Street a couple of days later when we rented a car...it was awesome!)

We ended our first day with some shopping in Union Square and an impromptu concert by a Swedish DJ named AviCii. We grabbed a bite to eat at a sports pub named Lefty O'Douls's and then called it a night. We'd been up since 3am, had flown clear across the country, jammed in as much as we could in our first day and we were exhausted. Climbing into our cozy down bed at the Mark Hopkins that first night felt like a little slice of Heaven. Our trip was off to an amazing start!

We woke early on day 2 (still being on east coast time) and were anxious to get some breakfast, so we headed down a couple of blocks to Lori's Diner. Our diets were completely placed on hold while we were enjoying our vacation, so I splurged and had French toast = mmm mmm mmm!! Since it was early and none of the Union Square stores were open yet, we hopped on a bus on Market Street and took it to the Ferry Building. There were a lot of morning ferry commuters coming into the city from the Oakland side of the Bay, so we tried to stay out of the way while we walked through the market and checked out some of the vendors. So early in the morning, the only stalls open were mostly coffee and pastry places. We sat outside for awhile and took in the view of the Oakland Bay Bridge before we traipsed up through the Financial District and made our way back to the shopping around Union Square. It was then that I proceeded to pick out my two "big" purchases while we were away. If you've seen my haul video (if not click here) then you've already seen my new Tory Burch Jaden Tote and Rebecca Minkoff Mini M.A.C. -- the two newest loves of my life!  ;)  We stopped at Westfield Shopping Center for a smoothie at Jamba Juice (our first of three trips to Jamba Juice that week...we were addicted!) and then made our way back to our room to drop off our shopping bags.

The afternoon was filled with exploring the Palace of Fine Arts (one word: STUNNING!!) and taking in the sights of the Golden Gate Bridge from the beach at Crissy Field. It was so windy and chilly right on the Bay that after we walked around the San Francisco Yacht Club and admired all of the boats for awhile, we headed up a few blocks to the shopping districts of Chestnut Street and Cow Hollow to warm up a bit. We were really excited to try out a restaurant called The Tipsy Pig on Chestnut Street for dinner, but we found ourselves starving by 4:30 and that restaurant didn't open for dinner until 5:30. Boo. I remembered a place that I had seen on Google Maps called Nettie's Crab Shack and I knew that it was in the Cow Hollow area, so we ventured out to find it and boy am I glad that we did!! I had the most amazing Oyster Po'Boy and my stomach is growling now just thinking about it. I forgot to snap any pictures of the restaurant itself, but trust me, it was so cute! If you ever visit SF, hunt down this little place tucked away on Union Street...you won't regret it. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed people watching. They even turned on the outdoor patio heaters so that we were nice and cozy. I wish that we could have gone back there one more time...it was THAT good!

Getting back to our hotel that evening ended up being a bit of a hassle. We could have easily hailed a cab and been there in ten minutes, but we'd bought a MUNI passport (for public transportation) and wanted to get our moneys worth out of it, but there were no buses running on Union Street that night. Go figure. We walked for awhile and eventually found a bus that would take us in the general direction of our hotel. The "scenic" tour that we took home that night, made getting a hot shower and crawling into bed that much sweeter. And we knew that we needed to get a good night's rest, as the next morning our rental car would arrive at 8am for our first excursion outside of the city. The next day would take us to Muir Woods National Monument, the picturesque Bayfront community of Sausalito and to the heart of Sonoma Valley.

Stay tuned for a recap of days 3 and 4 soon! I hope you guys enjoy this. Feel free to drop me a comment if you have any questions! And I'd love to hear from you if you've ever been to SF...or if you're amongst the lucky ones who have called it your home!

September POTM

We love bringing you guys our Polish Of The Month posts. It's always so much fun showcasing a special polish or polishes (because sometimes two is better than one) every single month. There are just so many awesome polishes out there that they really do deserve their own post! So without further adieu, we bring you...

September Polish Of The Month

Jayme's Pick - OPI's Don't Talk Back To Me (The Germany Collection)
This is a polish that I recently hauled as seen here. I have to say that I did second guess purchasing this polish...that is until I painted my nails. I am in love with this color!! This is the second time since that video that this color has made it's way onto my nails. It's a gorgeous mustard yellow/greenish mix with a hint of the most subtle silver shimmer. It's a must have for fall in my book!

Mendi's Pick - China Glaze Fast Track (The Hunger Games Capitol Colors Collection)
Like Jayme, I couldn't wait to jump into my new polish purchases. Fast Track is just a beautiful nude color with a ton of gold micro shimmer.  I was so in love with this polish that it's what I decided to paint on my nails while I was away on vacation in San Fran. It was the perfect nude to go with everything in my suitcase!

Now it's your turn! Drop us a comment to let us know what polish(es) have taken over your digits and piggies this month!

Beauty Battle: Revlon Scented Nail Polish

Before we get into today's post we just wanted to take a minute to acknowledge that today is 9/11. This is a day that will always be in our hearts ever since that fateful day. We are thinking of those who were affected.

Now on to today's featured post...

As we've mentioned in past Beauty Battles, the purpose of these videos is for each of us to try out the same product, then keep our opinions to ourselves until we can share our thoughts with each other while the camera is rolling.  We haven't filmed a Beauty Battle since July when we featured the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain seen here.

We are keeping it all in the Revlon family as we are featuring the Revlon Scented Nail Polish in Strawberry Cream

Friday's Fancies: School Daze

Happy Friday!! The time of year has come...back to school shopping! Now it's been a little while since we were in school but that didn't stop us from picking out a great back to school outfit. We think that this time of year no matter your age, you should "treat yo self" to a few fab back to school outfits. We have been drooling over this Madewell Letterman sweater jacket...it's so nostalgic! Now all we need is some cooler weather!

Jayme's August Photos: Days 16-31

This was such a fun half of the month to take photos because several of them are centered around my birthday. As usual, Mendi had the first half of the month as seen here. And now Mendi is working on September's photos in San Francisco! Lucky!

Day 16 -- Food
Just a quick lunch at Firehouse Subs. Mendi turned me on to the Italian. Can you believe that I had never had an Italian sub before? I was missing out!

Day 17 -- Faces
Just couldn't resist sharing this...my husband...I love this guy so much! Those faces always keep me entertained! We were celebrating my birthday at Havana 59 in downtown Richmond. It was so fun!

Day 18 - Inside
One of the coolest Orangutans (I think his name is Farley) at the Richmond Metro Zoo. He was putting on a show inside of his enclosure. We visited the zoo for the first time and it was so much fun. For those of you in the Richmond area, I suggest you visit. Make sure you feed the Giraffe's too. :-) This was a part of my bday weekend.

Day 19 -- Hole
How perfect is this picture for "hole"? These were a few of the prairie dogs at the Richmond Metro Zoo.

Day 20 -- Today
This was my actual birthday and my wonderful husband took me to a restaurant I've really been wanting to try Lady N'awlins in the Fan. The food was so good!! And yes, we both had crawfish. :-)

Day 21 -- Cool
Love how cooling this roller ball is on my eyes.

Day 22 -- Home
Need I say more? He (Cooper) was about to do crazy dog off of my bed. Those eyes look cute but they are major cray cray!

Day 23 -- Pair
Two pair of earrings I got as bday presents. Mendi gave me the beautiful gold and black Kate Spade earrings and Wes gave me the Fossil Giraffe studs as a way to remember our day at the zoo. I just love them both!

Day 24 - Path
The walking/bike path on the Brooklyn Bridge. This is actually a picture I bought from Urban Interiors in Carytown. If you live in Richmond then you need to stop by. Love this store!

Day 25 -- Fresh
My awesome free birthday gift from my most favorite store...SEPHORA! Love Fresh Sugar!

Day 26 -- Dream
Snapped a picture of a globe we have on our bookcase (it's from Target). One of my dreams is to travel more whether it's in or out of the country. Our next trip is to New Orleans!

Day 27 -- Tap
Wes and I were having drinks at a restaurant called Xtra's in Carytown and they had his favorite local beer on tap...Hardywood. The brewery is near where we live...how convenient, right?

Day 28 -- Clock
I'm totally cheating because this is obviously not a clock. Duh! But I was so excited that I finally had Pho (Pho 79) for the very first time for dinner this night with my awesome friend Heather. I loved it and can't wait to go again! And it's literally minutes from my house!

Day 29 -- Down
I'm bending down. Looking crazy. This is a bear stature in the Fan (don't ask me why it's here - it's really random) and I was going to make a kissy face but it turned out that I'm just making a face. An uncomfortable looking face. And I'm in such an attractive position :-)

Day 30 -- Card
I got this as a birthday present from my friend Katherine who is a Stella & Dot sales consultant and I just LOVE it. It even made my August Cravings list and somehow I was lucky enough to be gifted this panther necklace. Thanks Kat!!

Day 31 -- Hidden
We went with some good friends to see the Richmond Flying Squirrels baseball game on Friday night and I snapped some photos. Can you see our city "hidden" in the background?

Hope you enjoyed seeing part of my August! Let us know if you have been participating in the Photo-A-Day challenge too! Can't believe we are already into September!

Get a Shoe Up on Fall Trends

"Shoes. OMG. Shoes. I love my shoes." This is our mantra around these parts and with fall creeping up on our doorstep, we thought we'd take a moment today to show some of the new fall styles that we're loving in shoes. "OMG. Shoes."

So, tell us are you an "OMG. Shoes." girl too?? We're guilty as charged. We love all kinds, but we want to hear how you feel. Share your thoughts on the loafer, embellished, western and cap toe trends that are hitting the streets for fall.

And for those of you who don't get the "Shoes" references, please click here for a little Kelly and her love of "Shoes."
