Our Makeup Story

We really hope you enjoyed this video!  We had so much fun going back and thinking about how and when our love affair with beauty products began.  We love "tags" like this because we feel like these really help you guys get to know us better and vice versa.  We know that this tag originally went around on YouTube about 8 months ago (Jayme actually got this idea from emilynoel83 & it got us excited to do our own), but we thought we'd bring it back.

We tag the following bloggers to leave their answers to this "tag" in our comments section:
Erin @ Tropical Mind
Tracy @ The Frustrated Fashionista
Maribeth @ Obsessive Cosmetic Hoarders Unite
Marina @ Fashion.Makeup.Lifestyle
Tracy D @ My Best Beauty Buys
Linh @ La-La Linh

We also tag the following YouTubers to leave us a video response on our YouTube channel:
NeutraKris
TheShells23

TheCurrentBoobies

We'd like to tag anyone who wants to answer these questions...we'd love to hear your stories as well!  Feel free to leave your answers in the comments below or post a video response on YouTube.

1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?

  3. Thanks for the tag!!! I love this =) Here are my answers:

    1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup? I was in 6th grade. My mom took me to Clinique to get a makeover =)

    2. How did you get into makeup? I have loved makeup my whole life. I love color and art and expressing myself and what better way to do so than with makeup.

    3. What are some of your favorite brands? I love Urban Decay, MAC and NARS.

    4. What does makeup mean to you? Makeup is art and a colorful freedom of self expression and creativity.

    5. If you could only wear four products on your face what would they be? Concealer, powder, blush and lipgloss.

    6. What is your favorite thing about makeup? The choices and the creativity!

    7. What do you think about drugstore makeup versus high end makeup? There are good and bad in every brand. I use a little of both. I look for quality ingredients. Expensive doesn't always equal quality.

    8. What is one tip of advice you can give to a beginner? Invest in a good set of brushes and watch lots of Youtube tutorials!

    9. What is one makeup trend you never understood? Insane lightening streak blush overload in the 80's. It just looked crazy unnatural and clown like.

    10. What do you think about the beauty community on YouTube? I absolutely LOVE watching beauty tutorials on Youtube. There are some incredibly talented artists there and I have learned to much from so many different people. The majority of what I have learned about technique, brushes, and doing my own nails has come from the advice of those on Youtube. I cannot say enough good things and I recommend to all beginners of anyone looking to learn more to watch videos. You really learn so much.

  6. I so love make-up. Not sure when I started wearing it but I want to say 11 or 12. I remember I started with eyeliner and I wanna say it was Mary Kay. now i love Mac and Stila, and some other drugstore brands too. i think the nice thing about dept store brands though is they have more pigment and you can actually try them on before you buy!

  19. @ Alysson - So glad you came over and visited our blog. Yes, let's keep in touch!

@jemappelleshen - Thank you so much!! All you need to do is have fun and go into Sephora and get them to color match you. Also, get samples of several foundations/tinted moisturizers so you can find the right one before buying. So glad you stopped by!!

  20. Thank you for tagging me! Truly flattered!

    Questions:
    1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup? I was 10 when I got my very first nail polish, it was by Avon and bright red! I was in middle school when I started wearing blue eyeliner and frosty pink lipstick--it was the 80's!

    2. How did you get into makeup? My mom and grandmother were always into it. Every year at the holiday's my grandmother would buy me the Estee Lauder holiday set. So I was always just around it!

    3. What are some of your favorite brands? Chanel, Wet n Wild, MAC, Inglot, Maybelline, Revlon, Cover Girl, Rimmel....um, ALL?! Ha!
    4. What does makeup mean to you? It's a way to express myself and make myself presentable!

    5. If you could only wear four products on your face what would they be? Foundation, powder, mascara and lipstick or gloss.

    6. What is your favorite thing about makeup? My favorite thing about makeup is how it can go from very simple to dramatic so easily.

    7. What do you think about drugstore makeup versus high end makeup? I am a bargain shopper but in some cases I believe you get what you pay for. I've only recently dipped my toe in the high end pool because I've always found stellar drugstore products that work for me. When I couldn't find a drugstore foundation that stayed on my face that's when I went high end. And found what I needed! Still, my collection and what I use daily is mostly drugstore.

    8. What is one tip of advice you can give to a beginner? Less is more! If you don't need foundation don't use it!

    9. What is one makeup trend you never understood? Probably 80's makeup, overly made up.

    10. What do you think about the beauty community on YouTube? I've gained so much useful information from watching YT video's. And I love it when I hear about beauty guru's supporting each other!

    This was so much fun!

  21. Hello ladies...I'm a little slow at answering this week but here goes!

    1. I started wearing make-up officially in at about 13 or 14, my Mom gave my sister and I some makeup that we were allowed to use. But unofficially I've been playing with it for as long as I can remember - loved my Grandma's AVON samples as you know.

    2. Don't really know, I've just always loved it.

    3. Right now, Laura Mercier, Hard Candy, Benefit, and AVON...but truly I use things from so many different lines.

    4. Makeup is my creative outlet too, it's the one artistic thing I think that I can do fairly well and I love it for all the different things that I can do with it.

    5. 4!!! Um, tinted moisturizer, bronzer, mascara and tinted lip balm.

    6. I think like I said already, the different things you can do to achieve a completely different look.

    7. I think some people get too hung up on labels. I like a product that does what I want it to do, and I don't really care if it's from a department store/Sephora or a drugstore. I'd rather always pay drugstore prices...and you made a good point, a lot of the so called higher end companies have drugstore brand labels that they produce, so a lot of products likely can be duplicated at the drugstore level.

    8. Like you said Mendi, you can always wash it off...so experiment and practise. Also watching someone like Emilynoel83 or Tiffany D for their tutorials.

    9. I thought you girls came up with great ones. I guess huge amounts of black eyeliner or putting a bright eye shadow all the way up to your eyebrow...a little too Twisted Sister for me.

    10. I think like everything there is good & bad. I think you can tell the genuine ones from the ones who maybe aren't as honest as they should be, or think of themselves as a bit of a celebrity. But luckily I don't have to tune in if I don't want to..and can spend my precious free time watching only the ones I enjoy.

Thanks for the tag..you're right, this was a bit of a therapy :)

  22. 1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup? I was 12 or 13?
    2. How did you get into makeup? I don't know.. I forgot!
    3. What are some of your favorite brands? Maybelline & ELF :)
    4. What does makeup mean to you? I can enhance my beauty with makeup.
    5. If you could only wear four products on your face what would they be? Concealer, liquid eyeliner, mascara & blush.
    6. What is your favorite thing about makeup? It enhances my natural beauty!
    7. What do you think about drugstore makeup versus high end makeup? High end makeup lasts for a short time, but at the drugstore, its less expensive & you don't feel bad for buying it!
    8. What is one tip of advice you can give to a beginner? Less is more, and more is less.
    9. What is one makeup trend you never understood? Bold eyeshadows. I think they are cool & fun, but I probably would never wear it in public. But some girls may, and thats fine!
    10. What do you think about the beauty community on YouTube? They are great for tips & tricks!

Great tag! I enjoyed answering these questions!
