A Life's Checklist

Manicures? Check.  Pedicures? Check.  Facial masks at midnight? Check.  Shopping? Check...(duh).  Loads of giggling? Check.  Even a little partaking in sushi consuming? Check.

If you follow Her Late Night Cravings on Twitter, you might have seen something about me heading west to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia for a little mini-vacay to spend some much needed & overdue "girlie-time" with two of my favorite girls on Earth.  One being my amazing big sister, Tracy.  The other being this precious thirteen-year-old girl, and when I say precious I mean just that...this girl is precious to me in every way...

Life too often becomes way too "busy" to stop & smell the roses.  Sometimes you need that little reminder (or a swift kick in the butt) to put life into perspective & to be reminded that moments with the people that you love the most are going to be the memories that you'll hold onto forever...not cleaning the house or running errands or even painting your finger nails (yes, I said it).

Well...consider me having just spent two days in the best florist shop in the world.  Not only did I stop & realize how much I have missed spending time with these two incredibly special people in my life, but I will also look back at those two days for the rest of my life as a pivotal moment when I realized that my one & only niece, Taylor, is blossoming into an incredible young woman...no longer our little girl.  This particular girl's zest for life & devotion to everything from her family to her friends to all of her MANY extra-curricular activites (and I do mean MANY...she wears me out just thinking about the schedule she maintains) makes me recognize that she's growing up in the blink of an eye.  I could swear that just a few months ago she was five years old & I was trying to get her to sit still long enough for me to put her hair in pigtails.  Some things haven't changed...I was still trying to get her to hold still long enough for me to do her hair, but now it's more along the lines of straightening her hair instead of doing pigtails.  And applying a little (age-appropriate) makeup for a mini-"photo shoot" that we decided to conduct on a whim.

We hit the Blue Ridge Parkway on Tuesday for some scenic stops to snap a few pictures of this girl before she grows up right before our eyes.  I hope that day will always mean as much to her as it will to me.  We didn't even let a little rain shower ruin our photo parade...

It had been far too long since the last time we had some good quality time alone together & I can assure you that it will not be that long until we do it again.

And for those nay-sayers who say that gymnast aren't "athletes"...all I have to say is "Really??...Really???"  I beg to differ...

I was able to film a little of Tay's tumbling practice on Monday night.  She will be entering the 8th grade next year, but she has already made the high school JV cheering squad.  I'm only a little bit proud of her...can you tell?!?  ;)

Thank you guys for following the blog & for letting me ramble on for a minute about a couple of days that I will never, ever forget.

And a girl who makes me very proud to be her Aunt?? Check.

No Cramping Her Style

EVA LONGORIA photo | Eva Longoria
Credit: Seth Browarnik/Startraks

We just adore Eva Longoria's style. She can be on the red carpet in a floor length Zac Posen gown and look fabulous or be in a simple outfit like this and look amazing. Here at Her Late Night Cravings we love to dress up on occasion but we are most comfortable in jeans. Anyone can pull off a look like Eva's - skinny jeans, a white tank / t-shirt and a simple gray blazer.

But the show-stopper to her outfit are the nude peep-toe platform pumps and nude is so "in" right now, from shoes to nail polish. These gorgeous Sergio Rossi pumps can be found at Neiman Marcus for the low, low price of only $695.  We think every girl knows that your shoes can really "make" your outfit but because we aren't ballin' like Eva we would need another option. So we found a more budget friendly version of the same type of heel.

Chinese Laundry Shoes - Hotness Pumps
www.macys.com
$59.00

And we're totally loving the name of these shoes...what girl doesn't want to be seen in a pair of "Hotness" pumps?!?

Sometimes simple can be so sexy and chic! What do you guys think?

Don't forget to use your CVS card every time you check out...the rewards do pay off.

Also, I want to introduce you to the reason I went to CVS:

Meet Jade my 6 year old brindle pit bull. She is my baby girl. Her head looks really big in this photo...like her head is too big for her body but she is actually proportionate. :-) She has a tear in her ACL that will require surgery at some point but the good news is that with some TLC (meds, restricted activity and lots of loving from her Mommy and Daddy) the surgery will not be as soon as we originally thought. AMEN!

My Mane Squeeze

Back many years ago when I was studying publishing at NYU we all got to take a "field trip" to visit a magazine. Well, the one that everyone wanted to see was Rolling Stone. I mean, of course, because that office had to be the most youthful and well... rock & roll. We were selected at random and guess which mag I got...Good Housekeeping. Jayme say what? I was in my early 20's, and to be honest, that just sounded so boring. Boy was I wrong. Once at the Hearst Corporation, we all got escorted upstairs to see some of the actual testing labs. It was awesome. They were testing kitchen products and we got to go inside and watch. I never again looked at products that had attained the honor of having the Good Housekeeping seal the same. The seal means that the product does exactly what it claims to do...and let me tell you that they test the bejesus out of them before they are approved.

So this brings me to one of Mendi's best product finds ever...The Remington Style Therapy - Frizz Therapy Flat Iron. I bet you guys would never guess that Mendi's lovely red hair is naturally curly would you? And I'm not talking about wavy, I'm talking tight curls that some people pay to get. Well she found this fabulous flat iron a few years ago at Target and has raved about it ever since...and she has the hair to prove that this is the best flat iron on the market right now. So not too long ago she used the Remington on my hair and it was amazing. My hair can be a little big and frizzy and I don't like to spend lots of time to get my hair looking nice. This was a game changer...I went out and bought it immediately. The difference in my hair was insane.

Remington Style Therapy - Frizz Therapy Flat Iron

We promise that this product does everything it claims and we have tested this out in the humid weather that VA is known to have. Maybe sometime soon we will post a video showing what it does to our hair so you can see for yourself.

(This post was not sponsored by any of the brands mentioned.)

Oh and in case you were wondering those students that got picked to go to Rolling Stone complained about how surprisingly boring their visit turned out to be...in the end my group had the most fun magazine. :-)

Let us know what hair tool you can't live without or if you have this particular product. We'd love to find out!

Someone Should Warn the Hubs

I have a new love in my life...

Korres

No need to sound the alarm, or call a divorce lawyer, it's just a new lipgloss/lipstick.  But not just "any" lipgloss or lipstick.  Many brands claim to have a lipgloss that looks like a lipstick, but I typically find (after I've paid for it & left the store) that when I apply it to my lips it goes on far more sheer than it looked in the tube.  Bummer.

Well, such is NOT the case when it comes to Korres' Raspberry Liquid Lipstick.  While playing around in Sephora, I stopped in the Korres section (having not previously owned a Korres product) long enough to peek at some of their lip products.  When I put a swatch of this lipgloss/lipstick on the back of my hand I was taken aback at how pigmented the color was...enough so that I had to call Jayme over to take a look too.

Here's what Korres' website has to say about it:
  • KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS
Cooling, water-based liquid lipstick with the creamy texture of a lip gloss with the long-lasting, vibrant finish of a lipstick.
  • KEY INGREDIENTS
-Rich in line-smoothing, antioxidant Raspberry & Pomegranate extracts to protect against free-radical damage and smooth lip lines for softer, more youthful looking lips.
-Certified Organic Acai Palm Pulp Oil moisturizes and soothes the lips creating a long-lasting, creamy texture.
  • SHADES
Available in six intense, high-pigment shades: Nude Beige, Berry, Natural, Fuchsia, Red and Soft Pink.
I purchased the Nude Beige after going back & forth between that one & the Natural.  My Sephora didn't have a tester out for the Soft Pink, but now that I've taken a closer look at all six shades online, I think I'd want to purchase that one too.

Korres might just have a new loyal user here.  I keep referring to it as a lipgloss slash lipstick, because it seems to honestly be just that...it goes on incredibly smooth & shiny like a lipgloss (with no annoying tackiness...bonus), but it is so pigmented that it looks just like a lipstick.  I never thought I'd find a product that would give me the best of both worlds all in one.  Well now I can stop looking.  I have found my Prince Charming.

Learn more about Korres products at http://www.korresusa.com/ ...I know I will.  Or stop by your local Sephora store to see them in person (http://www.sephora.com/).

**And no, Korres & Sephora did not sponsor this post in any way, shape or form.

Please leave us a comment to let us know if you have any cravings that you need to have satisfied ASAP.

Steffing Out in Style

As you all know, we are still relatively new to the blogging community (we are still less than a month old) but we have gotten to meet (online of course) so many awesomely talented bloggers. One in particular really got us excited because the day we met and were emailing back and forth with her, we also noticed that she was featured in the "Look of the Day" on FabSugar.

Now for those of you who aren't familiar with FabSugar we are going to take a moment to explain. It all started with the PopSugar website where you could go and get celebrity info - not the tacky, demeaning gossip you would see while checking out at the grocery store, but good celeb and entertainment news accompanied with great photos. They were so successful that they branched off into a bunch of other "Sugar" networks that specialize in everything:  fashion, beauty, entertainment, home, sex & culture, mom & kids, food, money, health, tech and pets. And FabSugar is all about fashion, shopping & style.

Please meet our new friend Steffy...

This is the photo that won the "Look of the Day" at FabSugar and it hits close to home for us because of the top she is wearing. If you guys remember in our "Top 10 Spring 2011 Trends" post, we weren't that excited about our #8 trend which was crochet...that is until we saw Steffy's outfit. We adore the vintage inspired look she has created with the crochet top, floral skirt and the mix of leather (love the lace-up boots). And seeing her in this crochet top, she has somehow managed to change our minds about what we thought was our "least" favorite trend for Spring. Thanks Steffy! You rock!

Steffy has amazing style and showcases her talent pulling fun outfits together on her blog. Please stop in and visit her site:
http://steffysprosandcons.blogspot.com/

We think you will love Steffy as much we do!

A Closet We Covet!!

Last summer we discovered a new blog that made us immediately begin drooling.  Meet Megan from Honey We're Home...
Megan

Megan is all about organization, so this is a girl after our own heart.  As we began perusing her blog, we stumbled upon photos of her master bedroom closet that made us stop in our tracks.  Behold this beauty...
image

Have you picked your jaw up off the floor yet??  We know we haven't.  Where do we begin??  The show-stopping chandelier?  The shelves of shoes, shoes & more shoes?  The Tory Burch shopping bags so creatively displayed for a "pop" of color?  Ohhh, all of the rainbow colored goodness!!!  Makes us want to eat some Skittles!
image Closet 017  image

This closet is definitely crave-worthy!!  Not to mention the rest of Megan's gorgeous home, which she so generously let us follow since it's inception.  If we could ever move into a completely furnished & already decorated house, this would be it!!  So Megan, feel free to let us know if you ever need a housesitter, but a la Goldie Hawn, we may never ever leave!!

Hop on over to http://honeywerehome.blogspot.com/ to check out the rest of Megan's covetable home in Texas!

And be sure to drop us a comment to let us know what rooms, whether they are a closet, a kitchen or a bedroom, that you have found on the blogosphere that you are craving!

Bloopers...Doggie-Style!

Get your mind out of the gutter people.  I don't mean "that".  Hahaha.  No, really, I'm talking about my two baby girls...

Some people have kids.  I have Labs.  Two.  Chocolates.  Nugget & Zoey.

I couldn't resist sharing this bloopers reel with you guys, so that you can see what happens when I "try" to film a video with two hungry Labs in the house.

You'll probably see lots of these types of bloopers from Jayme & I, so get used to it.  Between the two of us, we have a total of FIVE dogs, so filming videos at home, doesn't always go as smoothly as we would like.  Trust me, it requires quite a bit of editing or many, many takes in order to get the videos that you normally see us post.

Jayme has three dogs (Jade, Cooper & Barkley) and they will be making their Her Late Night Cravings debut soon, so stay tuned.  But for now, let's hear it for two of the REAL stars of this blog, Nugget & Zoey...

We can't wait to hear the comments that we're gonna get from our blooper reels, so please bring 'em on!  Jayme & I don't just crave clothes, beauty products & things of that nature, we also crave (and LOVE) our 4-legged babies.

Locks I Love

Around this time of year, I always get the itch to try something new with my hair. I guess it's the change in weather that makes me want to change up my style. Lately I've just colored my hair with an all over brown that's just a little deeper than my natural shade. But I used to play with color...a lot. Right now my hair is long and I'm still loving the length (and I love pony tails in the summer) but I think it's time to switch up the color. That's what is so awesome about coloring your hair - it's a quick and easy way to change yourself without it being too permanent.

I was over at www.instyle.com checking out a feature they had on "9 Sexiest Spring Cuts" and found some cuts and color that I'm loving. Oh and I'll go ahead and say that yes Mendi is a true redhead. She is a virgin to the art of hair dying. Seriously though, you can tell by her complexion that it's natural yet people always stop her and ask if she colors her hair. It's kind of funny to us!

Here are my top 3 in no particular order:

#1 - Jennifer Aniston's One-Length Bob

Thank goodness that she is not bringing the "Rachel" back. Let's leave that on the set of Friends! Jennifer's newest cut and color is spot on.  It's a little shorter in the back and is angled slightly longer in the front and frames her face perfectly. Not as drastic of an angle that we have seen in the last couple of years ago. And the color is beautiful - chic and summery!

#2 - Olivia Wilde's Airy Bangs

Olivia's bangs are fabulous!  They look so easy and soft on her face. A nice departure from the very blunt straight across bangs that we've seen.  The airy bangs that just touch her eyebrows and the long layers around her face really keep the focus to her eyes and face. It's a light and beautiful way to pull of bangs right now. And loving the long layers and of course I just love her color.

#3 - Rachel McAdams's Bouncy Layers

This is the perfect hair for Rachel -  it's glossy, bouncy and is full of life (just like I imagine her to be!)
The length sits just below the collar-bone and the long layers just adds so much volume. Her bangs are on the longer side and look great swept to one side - adds a lot of texture. For anyone growing our their bangs this would be a great look.

Now what to choose...I'm so conflicted! Who knows, I may change my mind a hundred times before I go to my next salon appointment. And I may even combine a couple of the styles above - I have been leaning towards keeping my hair long, freshening up my layers and going a little lighter for summer. I'll have to see but I will for sure keep you all in the loop!

Please go to www.instyle.com for more info. I only mentioned three out of the nine styles that they featured. We love InStyle magazine so if you haven't picked up the latest copy then you should check it out.
