Paint & Polish...Vroom Vroom!

Not long ago Wes and I went to a car/motorcycle show at The Richmond Outreach Center (ROC). It's funny because we've been to car shows in the past (him more so than me) but this time it was very different. I wasn't there all of 2 minutes before I started to think about the blog.

I was all like, "Wait a minute, that car's paint job looks like nail polish!!!" Really, have I gone too far?? I don't think so. I got inspired and started taking pictures of the cars on display while simultaneously relating them to a certain polish and nail trends that we've seen. Wes didn't seem to mind because I wasn't bugging him to hurry up so we could leave because it was 1000 degrees that day. :-)

Check out some of my findings:

via
When I saw this VW Bus I was thinking about Essie's Borrowed & Blue but thought that was a tad too light so I decided that this color reminded me of Sephora by OPI in Slushied (Glee Collection). And the floral detailing on the back...I've seen lots of tutorials on You Tube showing floral nail art and how perfect it is in Summer. Some hand paint flowers, while others use the the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Strips in Girl Flower.

via
Now this is a color that caught my attention (and there were a couple of lime green cars at this show so it must be a popular color.) But I must admit that as far as nail polishes go that I don't own this color. So I had to go looking for this car's sister color in terms of nail polish. I think I found it in China Glaze In The Lime Light.

via
It's kind of funny because I do love some bright colors but this may have been my favorite paint job of the show. The pearly white was extremely classy in my humble opinion. It really stood out in the crowd. I kept thinking that I had seen this color in nail polish form but couldn't remember the exact one. You can find it in a bottle of Chanel Pearl Drop (511). I don't own this (or any Chanel polishes) but this is beautiful and might be worth the splurge.

via
This was my favorite stop of the show. The guy that owned this bike was too funny and treated this bike like it was an extension of the family (not in a creepy this guy is WAY too into his bike kind of way though.) When we came back by he had trophies taller than me set out around his bike. This iridescent color is hot and totally reminded me of a polish I own - OPI Not Like The Movies (Katy Perry Collection). Love!

via
Now this color got me the most pumped because orange (and coral) have been on fire this summer. I even mentioned orange back in my Bonus Trends post. And both Mendi and I LOVE and own this color...it's Essie Braziliant! I wonder if the guy who owns this truck would have taken my screaming out "Braziliant!!!" as a compliment. Um, hello...it's totally a compliment!!

via
I really liked this shiny purple. Fun for the car and fun for your nails. And this was an easy match up for me because at the time of the car show Mendi was wearing OPI  Purple With A Purpose on her toes. If only she had been with us so that I could have snapped a picture of her feet next to this lovely car...Right! The photo of this polish does not do the color justice. The polish is way brighter and closer to the color of the car.

via
I know this is another white but it's totally different...I swear!! The above one was pearly and this was is just a nice bright white. I knew this right off too because it's a nail color I had just seen some Tweets about...NARS Ecume. Now I'm not really a fan of white cars (but that's only because I had one before and it was too hard for me to keep clean! I'm lazy when it comes to cleaning my car) but white as a polish...YES PLEASE!!

via
I talked about this color not that long ago in my Hue Dat? post...totally in your face yellow. I immediately thought of the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Lightening (which I own and love). This color is not for the faint of heart. You have to put your big girl pants on to ride out on this motorcycle and to paint your nails bright yellow!

This was a really fun post for me to put together so I hope you all enjoy. I just wanted to show you that inspiration can come from anywhere and for me it came from a most unexpected car show with my husband on a really hot Sunday morning. :-)

Please drop me a comment and let me know your thoughts or if you have any better suggestions for closer color matches. Or let me know places you've found unexpected inspiration.

  1. Bahaha! Leave it to a woman to think of this. Great post Jayme! I thought it might be hard to find a color for the purple bike but you did well :) I have to go with yellow and Chanel pearl!
