Summer Hair Trends 2012

We were recently pouring over one of our favorite sites for beauty, fashion and celebrity goodness, InStyle, and wanted to share with you some of their hot 'Summer Hair Trends of 2012'. Now many of them will be familiar to you, but we wanted to showcase them anyway.

The Oversized Top Knot

Mendi has been trying out her version of the top knot. It's not too oversized but it's still cute!

The Pastel Dip Dye

Now we haven't tried this yet, but our friend Amanda from feast.fashion.faves did and it looked so cute! Click the link to see her do!

Peekaboo Braids

Now this is a trend that our braid-challenged Jayme is still trying to perfect. Where did her girl genes go??

Headbands

Now this is totally fool-proof and is a great one because you can toss on a headband for any occasion whether you have short or long hair. Easy and cute...we likey!

Hair Accessories

Hair accessories are cute and we think that some girls can pull these off. They are like hats to us...not everyone can rock these. It takes the right style and/or attitude!

And this last one has the cutest name (call us big dummies if we are the only ones who had never heard the name before)...
The Mini or Petite Pompadour

To be honest with you all we just like saying "Pompadour" over and over again. "Pompadour". We really like this look and would love to try and recreate.

So what do you guys think? Do you rock headbands or are you contemplating a dip dye? Let us know which are your favorite summer hair trends.

  1. My faves are top knot (of course. i rock that basically daily) and the mini pompadour. I have been trying to perfect the pompadour all summer. I think after looking at these pictures I have to be a bit bolder to get the effect.

  2. Love them all - I've wanted to try hair chalking for a while now - so I'm going for the dip dye!

  3. My FAV is the top knot for sure! I keep trying the braided up-dos but I can't braid my hair myself. What is wrong with me?? lol Headbands give me headaches - but I could totally try those cute hair accessories!

  4. I adore the headband trend and other hair accessories, since I'm growing out my hair. And I'm loving all these awesome up dos and cannot wait to be able to embrace them when my locks actually get long enough!!

  5. My stylist painted a purple strip in my hair a year ago. Then the next time, a feather painted in. I had the colors changed each time but got lots of compliments. Now I have no crazy color but I miss the compliments.
    I love headbands. I have a million.
I don't have enough long enough hair for more than a teensy ponytail but I love the braids, I braid my bangs into my hair sometimes.

  6. Pompadour is a fabulous word! I have a few different size hair donuts for top knots and i love them! (also glad that I grew my hair out so I could try) I've been trying to get good pics of my hair in one, but it's hard taking them of your own head! haahah I have to recruit my husband as photographer for a few shots :)

  8. I love the top knot. I don't think I am brave enough for a dip dye :)

  10. i've always been a bit braid challenged too, Jayme! haha! french braids and waterfall braids are sadly lost on me... although i did recently try a fishtail braid which turned out cute and is super easy! :)

  11. I'm literally digging all of these looks. I can rock a high bun but my hair is thing. I need to learn how to have a voluminous bun :)

  12. I am braid challenged too. I just think my hair is way to thick to get a good braid. It's probably just my abilities though. haha

I would really like to do the dip dye but I would never do a actual dye though. I've been thinking about trying the chalk method and see how it turns out.

  13. I am ALL about the headband and the top knot! However, my top knot slips as I have such baby fine hair. Looks stupid after a couple hours!!

  14. I love the top knot! I think I'm going to try Sultra's hair color mascara. I think it's a cute trend but I'm not willing to commit. =)

  16. Um love all of this! I wish I was adventurous enough to try dying my tips? I let some of my middle school girls color my tips with a highlighter and then proceed to hide it from my principal all day... so I guess that counts?

  17. Standard braids & more moderate buns are my go-to looks this summer! I'm trying to stay away from heat (blow dryers, etc) until school starts up again.

  21. I've been loving headbands lately, and those looks above are too cute. I'm not sure I'm a fan of the oversized top bun though, I don't know how it would appear in real life when one does not live on red carpets lol.

  34. Headbands make me look like a little girl (more so than I already do), but I STILL wear them! I wish I could wear headbands 24/7, because I love keeping my hair out of my face.
