If you watched our April Favorites video, then you know that we are eager to share our thoughts and opinions on the Fifty Shades book series by EL James. The trilogy includes Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. We owe a huge thank you to our friend Sarah from Downtown Southern for initially turning us on to them. While we thoroughly loved and obsessed over these books, we know that the material isn't for everyone (including anyone under the age of 18). If you so desire, check out the video below to learn a little bit more about the books and why we literally craved them throughout the month of April.
If you've read the series, we'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments section...just remember to keep them spoiler-free for those that haven't checked it out yet. For those of you who this has sparked an interest, tell us if you plan on going through with it. If you have any hesitations, let us know that too. We are always happy to answer any questions that you have. And if you have read the book and you hated it, then we respect your opinion. But if you have a negative opinion of it already and you haven't read a page, we say give it a chance. You might just be surprised.
Love this! I have been on the fence about buying these books... but you two sold me! In fact, i'm hopping in my car in about 2 minutes and going to Barnes & Noble to pick up the first book! I'm not kidding! Can't wait to be one of thousands of 'hot and bothered' housewives/girlfriend in America! Haha!
I loved the series. I stayed up many nights til 1-2am driving my hubby crazy with the nook light. haha! But let me say he got his fair share of the benefits from the books. :P
I don't think they were written that well. The constant Mr & Mrs drove me crazy but it was still a page turner for me.
I will have to watch your vid tomorrow and comment on it then.
I want to read this now! I wish I had more time for "fun" reading. It's all textbooks for me now. Love your videos! I started a new blog hop on my blog if you're interested :)
I read the first one and agree that it was an interesting story, but I do think there should be a warning on the books at the store/library that it contains SO much adult content. I bought my copy at Target and it was right next to the JF books, not cool!
Love love love the review, ya'll nailed it!! Thanks girlies for mentioning me, I feel so honored!! : ) I'm seeing a blate in our future to Cinebistro to watch the movie when it finally comes out!!! ;D
Laters babies! haha
(oh and I've read somewhere that el james doesn't want any super famous people to play the main characters, she wants to pick no name people, which I love!)
I actually just picked up the first book at my Wal-Mart of all places! I just started reading it and I'm absolutely hooked. There's something really compelling about the way the story is told. It was great hearing your views on the books! the-creationofbeauty.blogspot.com
I need to pick up these books! Great review :) I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about this series, but I think mostly everyone who actually gives it a chance ends up loving them! I'm in Key West, Florida now and the weather hasn't been the best, really rainy. But this has given me a lot of time to just relax and read (currently reading Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult - I love her!). Once I'm done with this book, I'll have to buy the 50 Shades series :)
Great review girls! I am on the third book and don't want the series to end: Cannot wait for movie and they better NOT mess up with casting! I vote either Matt Bomer or Ian Somerhalder as Christian and Amanda Seyfried for Ana.....
I was so happy to hear you all talking about this since I have been debating on whether to read this series. I'm going to go out and buy them today. Great review! www.winetastegirl.com
Okay! You' guys have convinced me to start reading! As soon as I finish the 2 books I'm reading now I'm buying these. I'll keep you guys posted...and thanks for the no spoilers :)
I haven't read this series but have heard so many varied opinions on it from others. I know several people who didn't like it at all, because they felt the scenarios were unrealistic and found the characters unlikable. I may check the books this summer.
Great video, ladies. I agree with everything yall said. Also, I'm in a class right now called "Social Problems", and it's all about different issues within society. One topic was over sex education & it really is sad how America is so "gung ho" on being extremely "hush hush" on the topic of sex. We compared our system to Europe's and the differences are shocking. I personally don't see myself dabbling into anything like what goes on in the book but whatever floats your boat, right? :-/ haha! Anyway, yall mentioned people are ashamed of going into the bookstore to buy the series and all that -- but really I think it's more about sex being such silent topic among Americans. Maybe this is totally off topic of the actual book but I thought of that when yall mentioned people being embarrassed and what not. I'm about half way done with the 3rd book now -- I'm sad for them to end!!
I seriously laughed when I saw the "laters baby"!! I couldn't agree more with everything you guys said! I was hoping you guys would do a video on this series. I just finished the last book today and I couldn't put them down! I would love to hear what your guy's opions are for the movie cast :) I would love to see more videos about book series that you guys are reading!
So I've been living under a rock and had not heard of the series til I watched your video. I talked a friend into reading the series with me. OMG! I have to say that I loved the series!! My friend is not as much as an enthusiastic reader as I am and hasn't finished them yet but it took me about a week of reading once my daughter fell asleep to finish the series. Thanks so much for introducing me to them. I loved reading their emails the most I think!
Hi there! This comment just made our day!! We are so happy that you loved the series and that you got your friend to read them too! Oh the emails back and forth were so much fun!!
