Fall's Best Beauty Trends

We were recently flipping through the August issue of InStyle magazine (the one with Katie Holmes on the cover) and saw they had a feature on "Fall's Best Beauty Trends".  You guys know how ready we are for fall, so this got us excited and we wanted to share some of their forecasts with you.

Fire Engine Red Lips
This is a trend that may fall a little short here at HLNC.  Mendi, our resident redhead, will not be seen in red lips this fall.  And Jayme is still a bit hesitant to go straight up RED.  But it is a hot look for those that can pull it off.  We must say that Olivia Wilde can certainly pull it off  and we love that she paired her scorching pout with minimal and natural makeup with just a slight cat-eye liner.  Gorgeous and a great representation of the trend!

The Golden Touch
We are so excited about this one!  We love golden hues for summer and had already planned to carry them into fall, but then we saw that it was listed as a beauty trend for fall.  YAY!  We recently purchased the Laura Geller Baked and Beautiful Kit and it came with the most fabulous eye color - Eye Rimz Baked Wet/Dry Eye Accent in Bewitching Bronze.  This color is so amazing, because it's so rich and a little darker than some of the more summery golds/bronzes.  Pair this eye color with some deep fall tones like plum, hunter/olive green or navy and you'll be smoking.

Spiky Lashes
No thank you!  Normally us girls are complaining when you end up with spiky lashes because it was not done on purpose.  Maybe you tried a new mascara and you didn't like the formulation because it was too dry and clumpy.  But now a trend is to look like you are using old, yucky mascara.  We'll pass!!

Head Bands
We say YES!  Headbands are so classic and really never go out of style but now there are so many different types that you don't have to look like a little girl when you wear them.  We are loving this black leather and metal headband from Juicy Couture.  It's edgy, yet feminine with the charm details, that you can just throw this on and keep on moving.

Easter Egg Lips
We just loved that the magazine listed a trend as "Easter Egg Lips."  Too funny!  But not so funny that we won't carry that into the upcoming months.  When we think pastel, our minds go straight to some of our favorite finds over the summer...one being the L'Oreal Le Gloss in Peach Fuzz.  It's the perfect pastel coral with a nice smell, taste and shine.  Also one tip that we learned from the article is that you can take a darker coral lipstick for example and apply it to your lips over concealer (put concealer on your lips) and it will create a  powdery more sherbet tone.  Interesting!

The Braid Craze
Braids, braids and more braids...this was huge this past spring and summer and it's making its way into the cooler months as well.  We've seen braids on the runway and on the street.  An easy way to set off your style.  Seems like the messier, the better so have fun!
via

Power Blush
The article mentioned that at the Oscar de la Renta fashion show that the makeup artist mixed two different lipsticks to achieve the perfect bright cheek blush.  Here at HLNC, we feel that for the everyday girl there are lots a great options without having to do that.  We've not tried this NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Hot Pink...yet!  What a gorgeous bold color!

Two-Toned Nails
Recently at the Behnaz Sarapour show, the Creative Nail Design team created a new and different take on the classic french manicure.  They sculpted the nails in more of an almond shape, which we have to be honest, it looks good in the photo but we probs aren't going to shape our nails like that.  And staying away from white they went with nude putty and black - CND Colour & Effects polish in Blackjack and Putty.  Definitely edgy and fun!

Strong Brows
We're all about a more natural eyebrow and not over-tweezing, which we know happens to a lot of ladies...you just can't stop sometimes!  Anyway, strong brows are in and we approve to a certain extent.  We love filling in our brows to make them a bit more pronounced and think that everyone should try it - it might change your life!  But making your brows too dark...NO!  It's such a harsh look!  The InStyle article says that you can use black eye shadow to fill in your brows to make them more extreme.  We do not agree!  But to each his own, right??

Mono-Chromatic Makeup
We have to say that this is so not our thing!  This was popular on the runway with Prada, Rodarte and Proenza Schouler and we're sure that on the runway, with such fabulous fashions, that it worked.  But for us it's a no.  We need some color and warmth on the skin.  The lip color in this photo is great, but she kind of looks too pale.  What do you guys think?
via

Undone Buns
We like that this just said "buns."  Haha!  Everyone rocks a messy bun from time to time but probably not on purpose.  Ours are messy sometimes because we are short on time or need to wash our hair and who knew we were so in??  :-)  Don't worry about random stray hairs or trying to slick back everything.  Easy and so chic!
via

Graphic Liner
This is a super cool trend and we hope to try this.  While we may not be able to pull this off at work, maybe it's doable for a fun night out with the girls.  Gone are the days to feel shy when it comes to applying eyeliner.  You will notice that the model below has on very subtle makeup so it's not too much going on and the focus rests on her eyes.  So go out and get yourself a really black smooth eyeliner and get to drawing!

As you can see we are not totally in agreement with InStyle but it's so much fun to see what different magazines are forecasting for fall.  What do you think?  Are there some you are into and some that you would never consider?  Please leave us a comment and let us know!

  1. I'm loving all the messy hair and bronze eye makeup! If y'all like the Loreal Le Gloss, I have heard that their Baby Blossom is a dupe for NARS Turkish Delight!

  2. I definitely am loving rust/burnt peach/red/brown everything this fall, so the monochromatic thing is working for me as long as it is done well. I make sure that I don't let my face fall as flat as that model's (she really does look super pale!) I feel like blush and mascara would have totally saved that look and made it really gorgeous! This was a great post. Do you subscribe to Allure? Their fall trends reports are GREAT.

  3. I love red lips on other people. I can never seem to get it right. I can't wait to try the two tone nails - something I've wanted to do for a while. Glad to see the messy bun is still a hit.

  4. The Lucky Magazine I was reading had forest green for an eyeshadow color. I really love that idea!

  7. I love the whole undone bun look. Anything too perfect sometimes can also border on boring, I think. ;)

Hope you're both having a lovely Labor Day weekend!

Love the graphic eyeliner and posted on this a couple weeks ago. Messy braid? check! Messy bun? Check! Red lips? Maybe Oval shaped nails? Never! Nude makup face? Ain't happening!
Loved your take on these trends!!

  16. I love some of these trends, but the bold eyebrow and the two-toned nails are definitely not my thing! I love the bright red lipstick idea, though... I'm sure I'll look EXACTLY like that model when I try it out! Haha.

  17. @ The Blonde - You would look great in red lipstick!

  18. I just did the red lips two days ago and loved how I felt all day--so feminine! Tonight I was completely entranced while talking with a woman with bronze eyeshadow--it looked great, and I want to try that next! I will never tire of headbands. Strong brows are so amazing, but not a look for me. I'll admire others. Can I just say--messy hair whether it's the bedhead, loose waves, messy braids or buns are the best thing that ever happened to me.
